Kind Of Blue: All Blue Gadgets

This season’s colour reminds us of the sea, the sky, our baby’s eyes, but mostly these gadgets:

Sony DCR-SX30E:-

The SX30 is different. Slotting between the go-anywhere-o-cams that are taking over our pockets and the proper camcorders used for holidays and weddings, it fills a niche we didn’t realise existed. It’s a niche where big zooms (60x) and tiny form-factors (107×59x57mm) rub shoulders with built-in storage (4GB) and easy-upload-to-web software.

Samsung NC10:-

We have Asus to thank for inventing the netbook, but we congratulate Samsung for perfecting the form. Its NC10 is as good as tiny laptops come: compact, powerful, with a 160GB hard disk, and a 6-hour battery life. It even has a few luxuries, such as an almost full-size keyboard. But in a nod to the young, carefree nature of netbooks, Samsung has decked it out in fetching blue attire. Good on it.

Diana F+:-

The Diana F+ is a clone of a super-cheap camera from the ’60s. It’s made almost entirely from plastic (even the lens), with seams that allow light to spill in and affect the 120  film photographs it captures. And there in lies its beauty. The unpredictability, softness and rich, vibrant colours of its snaps aren’t the most accurate, but they’re drenched with character. And check out that flash!

Sandisk Sansa Fuze:-

Sandisk-Sansa-FuzeHow do you make your MP3 player more successful than the iPod Nano? According to Sandisk, the answer is to stick blue lights on it. That’s why its Sansa Fuze, a reassuringly weighty silver of sturdy plastic, has a navigation dial that’s haloed by a shining blue ring. Other Nano-acing features include an FM radio, a voice recorder and expandable memory via its built-in microSDHC slot.

Numarx X2:-

Numarx-X2 A silver record deck witha blue record upon it? You could be forgiven for thinking so, but no. That’s virtual vinyl, which lets you cue and scratch CDs in the slot below as if they were records. Thanks to its high-torque direct-drive turntable, the X2 also plays real vinyl too – even at the same time as an audio or MP3 CD. It’s so clever, we’ve treated it to an Ortofon Concorde DJ S cartridge.
