Microsoft is launching the first smartphones packing Windows Mobile today, and has shared a few details on the new OS ahead of its full announcement.

With a cleaned up, easier-to-use interface, WinMo 6.5 promises better browsing capabilities and easy access to services such as Windows Live, Bing, Mobile Office Communicator and Microsoft Online Services such as Exchange and Sharepoint. Continue reading…

So we knew it was coming, and now the HTC HD2 has been officially outed and confirmed to go on sale later this month.

Although it packs Windows Mobile 6.5, the HD2 benefits from the rather lovely HTC Sense skin we’ve seen on the Android-loving Hero, bringing multi-touch to the a Windows Mobile phone for the first time. Continue reading…

There have been rumours for a while now, but this morning it became official that O2 has lost its exclusivity deal to sell the iPhone with news that Orange will also be selling Apple’s handset before the year is out.
It had previously been suggested that Orange would just be selling the 3G, and that O2 would retain exclusivity on the 3G S. However, Orange has confirmed it will be selling both handsets later this year. Continue reading…

Updated Facebook iPhone app hits App Store

We heard about the new Facebook 3.0 iPhone update a few weeks ago, and after Apple taking its time in approving it, it’s now available from the App Store.
Even better news is that the app is now even better than the first one that was submitted.
After submitting it, developer Joe Hewitt started tinkering with the app for further improvements, and when Apple came back to him yesterday to ask him to fix a minor bug, he fixed it within his new version. Continue reading…

If you’ve resisted the iPhone 3G S and HTC’s Hero, preferring to hold out for Palm Pre your wait may be over at the end of October.

Rumours circling the internet are suggesting the highly-anticipated handset (and rumoured iPhone killer) is set to hit UK shelves on Friday 30 October.

Every few weeks, we hear a buzz from some corner of the Web that Nokia is going to launch an Android-based phone. Well, at the Nokia press event on Thursday, the company flatly denied going in any such direction.

Senior officials said that the company is completely committed to Maemo at the moment, hinting at the launch of the upcoming N-900 and perhaps a series of touchscreen phones based on the platform. Continue reading…

If you have been a lover of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface seen on most of its high end phones,  rejoice! Samsung has announced the availability of its Mobile Widget SDK, which means that the UI is now open to third parties who can develop widgets for it.

Another Apple patent is doing the rounds showing ideas for a user to send texts, emails and documents while still on another callThe iPhone 3G S has only been out a few months, but patents uncovered this week have given us a sneak peek at Apple’s ideas for future handsets.

First filed in February 2008, the patent called “Auto Messaging to Currently Connected Caller” details a way for a user to send texts, emails and documents to a person while on the phone to them.

Apple described a scenario such as a conference call, and having the ability to send a document to all the people currently on the call without having the hang up first.

There is also the possibility of sending over a contact to someone, or forwarding them a picture without needing to cut your call short. Continue reading…
